"Celebration of the Arts"

Join us for the UMW 2nd Annual Art Show on Saturday, May 19 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in Fellowship Hall. Works of art will be provided by our congregation, friends and affiliates. Along with the art show, the UMW will host a reception with refreshments. For your listening pleasure, music will be provided by our own Jimmy Patton. Each ticket is a $10 donation, which can be purchased in the Narthex between services or from UMW members (see the ladies with the artist berets). We encourage all who love art to participate. If you are interested in sharing artwork that has special meaning to you, please see Heidi Kendall or Dakota Koenig in the Narthex. Remember, you do not have to be an artist yourself…just enter a piece or two that you love and wish to display. Entry forms to reserve a spot in the show can also be obtained in the church office.

Let the trumpets sound to all those junior Monets, Picassos and Rembrandts in our midst. Let this be a call to all UMC artists and/or exhibitors (and those who appreciate art) to bring your favorite art work to share at our 2nd Annual Art Show and Reception, sponsored by the United Methodist Women. The Arts Committee is encouraging all artists and art lovers to participate in this upcoming art celebration, an exhibit displaying original works by UMC of Vista artists, as well as original pieces owned by, or affiliated with UMC parishioners. Do you have a portrait of your child or parent at home, a painting of a treasured vacation spot, an embroidery, carving, photograph or other artwork created by a loved one or friend? Why not share them with our church community at this delightful event. Visit with artists and exhibitors, enjoy delectable refreshments, and for your listening pleasure, experience live music performed by our own Jimmy Patton, while admiring these wonderful works of art. Tickets for both the reception and art show will be on sale starting April 15th. Ticket cost is only $10.00. Please mark your calendar for the following important dates:

Our PURPOSE:
The organized unit of UNITED METHODIST WOMEN shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God, and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

Who Is a Member?
A member of United Methodist Women is anyone who commits herself to the Purpose and chooses to belong.  United Methodist Women celebrates an inclusive membership and welcomes all women who want to become members.

Being a member of The United Methodist Church is not required nor is there any minimum age requirement. Out of a commission locally and globally with women, children and youth, United Methodist Women choose to participate in meetings, prayer, financial giving, study, action and service.
United Methodist Women is a community of women who nurture and encourage one another in their spiritual growth, personal leadership and transformation. As a member, you accept the challenge to expand concepts of mission.

Why Become a Member?
Why become a United Methodist Woman?  United Methodist Women is a national membership organization with nearly one-million members whose purpose is to foster spiritual growth, develop leaders and advocate for justice!  Members raise approximately $20 million a year for programs and projects related to women, children and youth in the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world!

Blessing sung at Unit Meeting:
Be present at our table Lord,
Be here and everywhere adored,
These mercies bless and grant that we,
May feast in fellowship with thee.  Amen

United Methodist Women:
Modern Wesley by Alice Belton United Methodist Women since its inception has followed Wesley an doctrine. John Wesley’s quadrilateral fits well into the Purpose of United Methodist Women. Members of United Methodist Women use scripture, experience, reason and traditions as ways to fulfill our Purpose.  All essential components of the organization’s key emphasis–mission—are based on Scripture. United Methodist Women is a community of women whose purpose is to know God. Spiritual growth and theological development are at the heart of United Methodist Women.  The second part of our purpose is to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ. This includes education for mission, awareness of social issues, leadership development, schools of Christian mission, events like National Seminar and Assembly, and financial support for mission programs and projects throughout the United States and around the world.  These experiences are where women deepen their faith and gain strength on their personal and communal journey with Christ.  This article was in the February 2008 edition of the U.M.W. Response magazine.  Alice Belton of Hercules, California, is vice present of the board of directors of the Women’s Division of the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries.
