Seminar on Grief and Healing:

Beginning on Wednesday, February 1, at 7:00 pm, in the choir room, the church is offering an 8-week grief seminar. The purpose of the seminar is to help those experiencing the loss through death of a loved one in their lives. It could be the loss of a child, spouse, sibling, parent, other relative, or friend. It does not matter how long it has been since the loss occurred, as grief over a loved one comes and goes. This seminar will offer an opportunity for growth and healing. The facilitators, Mary Trotta and Linda Dicus, are both nurses, not counselors, but have much experience in this type of seminar with a spiritual emphasis. There is no charge for this seminar, and is open to anyone who is coping with grief in the loss of a loved one. Any questions, please call Kathy Johnson at 760.560.7150.

Parent’s Night Out,

Saturday, February 4 - Parents, while you get ready for your Super Bowl party or other things you need to do, leave the kids with us on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in Fellowship Hall. We’ll have SUPER games and SUPER movies and SUPER fun galore. Kids bring a side dish to share with your friends and we’ll provide beverages and a main course SUPER style. To keep our children safe we MUST know how many children will be attending. Please RSVP by Wednesday, Feb. 1 (760-726-0442).

“Around the World in 80 Minutes” is the theme of Friday Fellowship Night on February 10—In Jules Verne’s book, and the academy award winning movie, it took Phileas Fogg 80 days to go around the world. With your help, on Feb. 10, United Methodists can go “Around the world in 80 minutes”! If you have visited, or lived in, an interesting part of the US or another country, please share your experiences. Select 10 prints, slides or digital images from one location. PowerPoints or videos 5 minutes in length or less are also welcome. (Call the Corwins at 760.597.0433 with questions.) Please deliver your CDs, etc. to Norm Corwin by Jan. 29 so we can organize contributions on one laptop. (If you don’t see Norm, or don’t know him, you can put these items on the desk in the church office.) It you put your name on them, they will be returned. We look forward to another interesting evening of sharing meaningful experiences!

Join us for "game" night at our Friday Fellowship Night on February 17 at 6:00 pm in Fellowship Hall. Bring a snack to share and your friends, too.

Shrove Tuesday will be here before we know it. This year it will be on Tuesday, February 21. As in the past, we will meet at IHOP Restaurant in Vista (632 Sycamore Avenue) between the hours of 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm. The back room has been reserved for our church group. So, mark your calendars for Tuesday, February 21 for our pancake supper to mark Shrove Tuesday.

NOW THERE’S SOME GOOOOOOD EATIN’—Sunday, February 26 in Fellowship Hall from 10:00 am. to 1:00 pm. It’s our sixth annual Slow Roasted Beef Luncheon to raise funds for the All Church Camp experience coming up in April (more Camp details later). Join us for a delicious lunch or make a plate or two to take home. We’re serving up succulent, slow roasted beef roast (no bones) with barbecue sauce on the side, homemade beans, coleslaw, rolls and homemade apple crisp and brownies (turkey dogs available too). This has been a successful event for us each year and the prices are the same as they were last year—adults and children over 10 years/$8 each; children 4–10 years/$5 each; children under 3 years/eat free.

The February 5 communion offering will help "and Two Fishes" which serves the Thursday soup kitchen meals at All Saints Episcopal Church in Vista. Our church is the core support of this ministry both in manpower and finances. Each week between 90 and 100 persons are fed a well-balanced meal with a lunch to take home. Our offering will help purchase food and paper goods. -Missions Committee
